This fall, 350 educators from the United States will travel to Ghana to take part in the second All-African Diaspora Educators Summit (ADES). Scheduled from September 27th to October 6th, the event follows last year’s successful gathering, where 300 educators from the U.S. and Africa met at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.

The focus of the summit is on promoting African-centered education, which is seen as key to achieving freedom and empowerment for African people. Participants will explore ways to implement educational systems that prioritize the history, culture, and experiences of Black people, both in the U.S. and Africa.

This year’s theme being, “Who were we before they came?” The summit aims to build on the ideas and strategies developed during the 2022 event, offering teachers, faculty, and policymakers an opportunity to learn and collaborate. The gathering in Ghana is designed to help educators better understand the past and present educational landscapes, encouraging them to reimagine how they teach and support Black students.

The 2024 ADES is expected to attract a diverse group of educational professionals from around the world, all dedicated to the belief that African-centered teaching is vital for the future of African people.

The Organizers from ADES and A2mend are excited to welcome participants to this important event, which promises to be a powerful and inspiring experience.
