Adrian Maclin, a music director at Cordova High School in Tennessee, has won the 2025 Music Educator Award. This award is given to teachers who do an exceptional job of teaching and inspiring students through music.
Maclin has been at Cordova High School in Memphis, Tennessee as their director of choirs for almost 20 years, and not only has he helped many students develop their musical talents, but he’s also a mentor who helps them grow as individuals.
“Adrian Maclin exemplifies dedication, selflessness, and excellence…” said Deb Confredo, President of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
Maclin’s students love him because he creates a family-like atmosphere in his classes. “We don’t refer to ourselves as a choir class. We refer to ourselves as a choir family,” he said.
His students have learned valuable life lessons from him, like teamwork and self-worth. One student, Jo Aguilar, said, “He’s giving me life lessons. It’s not just about choir.”
Maclin’s award is not just a recognition of his hard work, but also a reminder of the importance of music education in schools. “We know the truly magnificent benefits of systematic music instruction; it is life-changing,” said Confredo.
