The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of twenty-eight nationals, primarily young individuals, who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking operation in Côte d’Ivoire.
The group arrived back in Ghana yesterday, following a coordinated effort involving security personnel and officials from the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan.
In a press release issued in Accra on the same day, the Ministry confirmed that the rescued individuals are currently aiding investigations aimed at dismantling the trafficking network and prosecuting those responsible for the crime.
“The rescued individuals are now safely in Ghana and are cooperating with ongoing investigations,” the statement read.
The Government of Ghana expressed gratitude to the Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence sharing during the rescue operation.
“We commend the Ivorian government for their effective partnership and shared information,” the Ministry remarked, emphasizing that the administration is committed to ensuring that those behind the criminal enterprise face justice.
Additionally, the Ministry advised Ghanaians to remain alert against deceptive travel and employment offers, particularly those put forth by unlicensed recruitment agencies.
It urged the public to verify all travel and job proposals with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, and Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad.
“The safety and well-being of all Ghanaians is our highest priority,” the statement concluded.
