President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has expressed Ghana’s readiness to deepen energy cooperation with Russia, focusing on solar power and nuclear technology ahead of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The planned engagement will take place on the sidelines of the Russia–Africa Summit, with expectations of establishing fresh opportunities for investment and economic collaboration.
President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s contribution to electricity distribution across West Africa, explaining that the country supplies power to Togo, Burkina Faso and Benin while maintaining electricity exchanges with Côte d’Ivoire.
Despite its position in the regional power sector, he noted that Ghana was pursuing alternative generation options to broaden its energy portfolio and improve long-term supply.
The President described relations between Accra and Moscow as historically significant, stressing the need to rebuild their longstanding partnership through renewed diplomatic engagement.
He expressed confidence that Russia’s technical capabilities in renewable energy and nuclear power development could help Ghana achieve its energy diversification objectives.
President Mahama further indicated that discussions with President Putin could strengthen bilateral relations, attract additional capital and expand commercial ties between the two nations.
