Ghanaian international footballer and Manchester City forward, Antoine Semenyo, has disclosed that he was targeted with racist remarks on Instagram following his team’s impressive 3-0 win against Chelsea FC on Sunday.
The 26-year-old showcased a stellar performance at Stamford Bridge as Pep Guardiola’s squad capitalized on Arsenal FC’s recent setback against AFC Bournemouth, securing all three points in the process.
The victory reduces the gap between City and league leaders Arsenal to just six points, with a game in hand, setting the stage for a critical showdown at the Etihad Stadium during the weekend. Teammate Jeremy Doku has already labeled the upcoming match as potentially pivotal in the title race.
While the team celebrated their on-field achievements, attention has been drawn to off-field matters after Semenyo revealed that he received offensive racial abuse through Instagram shortly after the match.
Since joining Manchester City for £64 million from Bournemouth in January, Semenyo has made a notable impact, quickly becoming an integral part of the team. Alongside fellow January recruit Marc Guéhi, who also scored against Chelsea, the Ghanaian international footballer has provided additional attacking options to a squad that previously depended heavily on Erling Haaland.
However, a celebratory post shared by Semenyo after the match was overshadowed by a racist comment from a user on social media. The forward subsequently posted a screenshot of the abusive message on his Instagram story yesterday, bringing attention to this distressing incident.
