Deadass Comedy Show: Spotlighting Rising Black Talent In NYC’s Comedy Scene

In the heart of New York City’s vibrant comedy scene, the DEADASS: a comedy show has carved out a unique niche by prioritizing community over celebrity. Founded by Mouse, with partners KAS, Spank and Tiffanie Wagner, the show offers an experience that feels more like a family gathering than a traditional stand-up show.

The show’s format is unconventional: the lineup of comedians remains a mystery until the show begins. This approach shifts the focus from individual performers to the collective experience. As Tiffanie explained, “Our comics don’t necessarily drive the attendance. People come just for an experience”.

DEADASS is  a comedy show is committed to providing a platform for both established and emerging Black comedians. Mouse, who curates the lineup, is particularly passionate about this mission. He notes that traditional comedy circuits can be gatekept, making it difficult for new talent to break through. The producers aim to change that by offering opportunities to those who might otherwise be overlooked.

Spank echoes this sentiment, highlighting the importance of representation: “It made the most sense to be like, all right, now this is something where we could put our people on from our neighborhoods and be the Def Comedy Jam for them.”

While its roots are in New York, the team has ambitions to expand. They’re exploring opportunities to tour, create content, and produce specials that showcase the talent they’ve cultivated. Tiffanie articulated this vision: “We don’t have a ceiling… We’re taking something and we’re reinventing what worked before.”

Inclusivity is at the heart of the show’s mission. The team strives to create a space where everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or background, feels welcome. As Tiffanie put it, “Comedy is for everybody… we can all come together and laugh in the same room about the same jokes”.

The evening is more than just a comedy event; it’s a movement that redefines what a comedy show can be. By centering community, championing emerging talent, and fostering inclusivity, DEADASS: a comedy show is setting a new standard for live entertainment in New York City and beyond.
