Ghana’s President Mahama Rallies Support For Black Stars Ahead Of World Cup Opener

‎President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has sent an inspiring message to the Black Stars as they gear up for their opening match against Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‎The encounter will take place at BMO Field in Toronto on Wednesday, June 17.

‎In a statement released prior to the crucial Group L showdown, President Mahama urged the players to represent the nation with pride, emphasizing that all Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, are united in their support.

‎”You carry more than just a ball. You bear the hopes, aspirations, and heritage of our people,” the statement conveyed.

‎”From the streets of Chorkor to the plains of Bole, every Ghanaian heart beats in harmony with yours.”

‎This World Cup marks Ghana’s fifth appearance in the tournament and the first since Qatar 2022.

‎Under Coach Carlos Queiroz, the team faces a tough Group L that includes England, Croatia, and Panama.

‎The match against Panama is viewed as a critical opportunity for Ghana to secure a win and enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

‎President Mahama highlighted the importance of this moment, calling the tournament a reflection of the resilient spirit of the Ghanaian people.

‎He encouraged the vibrant diaspora in Toronto and throughout North America to rally as the “12th Man.”

‎”Let our colors of red, gold, and green light up the stands, and let our drums remind our players that home is always close by,” he added.

‎In addition, the government announced it has acquired official television broadcast rights for the tournament, ensuring that Ghanaians nationwide can follow all the action.

‎”We have successfully secured broadcasting rights so that every tackle and goal can be witnessed from Axim to Bawku and from Ho to Hamile.

‎This is our gift to a nation that lives and breathes football,” the statement noted.

‎The message concluded with a heartfelt rallying cry for the players ahead of what promises to be a pivotal evening for Ghanaian football.

‎”Play for our flag. Play for the children who dream of greatness in your footsteps.

‎The world is watching, and we believe that the Black Stars will shine brighter than ever on this global stage.

‎Kickoff for the match between Ghana and Panama is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET (11:00 PM Ghana time) at BMO Field in Toronto.
