Ghana international Mohammed Fuseini is recovering after being violently attacked and robbed in broad daylight in Brussels, an incident his club, Union Saint-Gilloise, has described as deeply shocking.
The 24-year-old forward was sitting in his parked car on Sunday when a group of masked men ambushed him in what Belgian police are investigating as an armed robbery. Belgian broadcaster HLN reported that the attackers dragged Fuseini from the vehicle, pinned him to the ground and stole his valuables before fleeing.
Belgian media said the gang consisted of up to five people. Three of the suspects allegedly grabbed Fuseini by the neck while two others searched his car. They first took his mobile phone before stealing a Rolex Datejust worth between €8,000 and €14,000. The attackers then fled, leaving the Ghanaian shaken but otherwise conscious.
In a statement, Union Saint-Gilloise described the incident as “extremely shocking” and confirmed that Fuseini had returned to training after undergoing precautionary medical checks at hospital, where doctors found he had not suffered serious injuries.

Fuseini was not the only person targeted. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office said three people were robbed while returning to their cars on Sunday.
“Three people were the victims of an armed robbery while returning to their cars in Brussels on Sunday, and according to the initial findings of the investigation, a number of individuals assaulted them and stole various valuables from them, including watches, phones and personal belongings,” prosecutors said.
Two of the victims reportedly sustained injuries that left them temporarily unable to work.
Investigators have already made one arrest. Police searched the suspect’s home and recovered items believed to have been stolen during the robbery spree.
Prosecutors said the suspect had been charged with armed robbery as part of an organised gang and remains in custody under a detention order. Authorities are also seeking the appointment of an investigating judge as the search continues for the remaining suspects linked to the series of robberies across Brussels.
Fuseini joined Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2024 after leaving Austrian side Sturm Graz and has become an important player for the Belgian club. He has scored 14 goals in 71 appearances in all competitions, including the winning goal in the Belgian Cup final on 14 May as Union defeated Anderlecht to lift the trophy.
He earned his first senior cap for Ghana’s Black Stars at the Unity Cup in May 2025, entering as a substitute late in the match against Nigeria. He went on to net his maiden international goal in the tournament’s fixture against Trinidad and Tobago.
