Carlos Queiroz, head coach of the Black Stars, is likely to extend his tenure with Ghana’s senior national football team after successfully guiding the four-time African champions to the Round of 32 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Reports indicate that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have come to an agreement to prolong the Portuguese coach’s contract, which initially lasted four months.
This decision follows discussions between both organizations regarding Ghana’s World Cup performance, with officials expressing their belief in Queiroz’s capability to usher in a new era of achievement for the Black Stars.
The seasoned coach is anticipated to sign a two-year deal, with his main goal being to secure Ghana’s first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title since 1982, ending a 45-year drought.
Ghana, having won the AFCON trophy four times, is prioritizing this mission as a vital objective for the national squad.
Queiroz was brought on board for a brief period prior to the World Cup and made a significant impact by leading the Black Stars past the group stage before their exit in the Round of 32.
An official statement regarding his contract extension is expected shortly, as both the GFA and the Ministry of Sports are reportedly confident that Queiroz is the ideal candidate to rejuvenate the Black Stars and re-establish Ghana’s prominence in African football.
