McCoy brings nearly two decades of law enforcement experience to the role, having worked extensively in community engagement and public safety.

“We are thrilled to welcome Captain McCoy to Hartford,” Mayor Arulampalam said. “His extensive experience, commitment to community engagement, and innovative approach to public safety make him the ideal leader for our police department.”

McCoy’s career highlights include reducing violent crime and implementing data-driven policing techniques. He expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am honored and excited to serve as Hartford’s new Chief of Police. I look forward to working closely with the dedicated men and women of the Hartford Police Department and engaging with our community members to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.”

McCoy’s nomination will be presented to the Hartford Court of Common Council on February 10. If confirmed, he will succeed Interim Chief Kenny Howell, who has led the department since July 2024.
