Ghana’s President Mahama Allocates GHS300 Million For Flood Relief Efforts‎

In response to devastating flooding that has impacted various communities in southern Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama has authorized the immediate disbursement of GHS300 million from the Contingency Fund to facilitate urgent relief and mitigation initiatives.

‎A statement released by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the allocation comes after hours of intense rainfall that submerged numerous neighborhoods, affecting both residents and their properties.

‎Of the total funds, GHS150 million is earmarked for emergency assistance to flood victims and impacted regions, while the other GHS150 million will focus on long-term flood mitigation strategies designed to minimize the risk of future occurrences.

‎Additionally, President Mahama has ordered the mobilization of personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to collaborate with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security bodies in ongoing rescue and relief operations throughout the flooded areas.

‎Earlier today, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama undertook an aerial survey of the inundated regions to assess the damage’s severity.

‎He also announced a range of measures aimed at safeguarding residents and bolstering efforts to prevent similar flooding in the future.
