The remains of a 37-year-old Ghanaian information technology professional who died in an alleged mob attack in South Africa have been returned to Ghana.
Nash Amoonu Jailor was killed in East London in March 2026, reportedly during violence targeting foreign nationals.
His body arrived in the country on Thursday, September 3, at about 3 p.m. and was later released to his relatives for funeral arrangements.
Jailor was said to have been a major provider for his household.
Following his death, his relatives appealed for state assistance to facilitate the return of his remains from South Africa.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the exercise was completed without any financial burden on the bereaved household.
Government paid the expenses associated with transporting the body back to Ghana.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Friday, September 4, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa conveyed his sympathy to the family and pledged continued state assistance as they cope with the tragedy.
He encouraged the bereaved relatives to remain resilient during the period of grief.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Pretoria is working with South African officials to establish the events that led to Jailor’s death.
The Ghanaian authorities are demanding a prompt probe into the case and are pursuing accountability for the circumstances surrounding his killing.
The Ministry said the government remains committed to safeguarding the interests, security and wellbeing of Ghanaians who reside or work outside the country.
