41 Ghanaians Evacuated From South Africa Return Home

‎Forty-one Ghanaians displaced by xenophobic violence in South Africa have arrived in the country’s capital, Accra, as part of the government’s ongoing repatriation exercise.

‎The group landed at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday and was met by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and several public institutions.

‎Head of the Ministry’s Delivery Unit, Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, received the arrivals on behalf of the government.

‎He assured them that authorities would continue to provide assistance aimed at protecting their wellbeing and helping them settle back into their communities.

‎He urged the returnees to approach the next stage of their lives with confidence and apply their skills and experience toward rebuilding their livelihoods and supporting Ghana’s development.

‎According to the ambassador, arrangements had been made with relevant agencies and other partners to assist the group during the reintegration process.

‎Representatives of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Health Service, Port Health Authority, Ghana Red Cross Society and the Ghana Armed Forces also participated in the reception.

‎The returnees thanked the government for arranging their departure from South Africa and for supporting them during the evacuation.

‎Their arrival brings to the latest phase of Ghana’s efforts to assist nationals affected by xenophobic attacks in the country.
