South Carolina Native Danielle Brooks Earns Oscar Nomination for “The Color Purple”. Simpsonville-raised actress Danielle Brooks received an Oscar nomination on Tuesday for her standout performance in “The Color Purple.” 

Nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Sofia, Brooks stands as the sole nominee representing “The Color Purple” in this year’s Oscars. 

Brooks has garnered acclaim for her diverse roles in various productions including “Peacemaker,” “Orange is the New Black,” and “Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia.” 

Among the notable contenders for Best Supporting Actress are: 

Emily Blunt for “Oppenheimer”
