A suspected fatal shooting in the United States has drawn attention in Ghana after an 18-year-old Ghanaian national was found dead behind the wheel of a crashed vehicle in the state of Virginia.
Michael Sakyi Jr. was killed after suffering a gunshot wound before his car struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle in the city of Manassas, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Officers had initially responded to what was reported as a traffic collision on June 25, only to discover it was the scene of a homicide.
Police said Sakyi was found slumped in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have since arrested 21-year-old Jamal Dana Allen in connection with the killing. He has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Court records show he is being held without bond as detectives continue investigating the case.
The killing has sent shockwaves through Ghanaian communities in the United States and online, where tributes have poured in for the teenager after news of his death spread widely on X on Monday.
Family members have described Sakyi as an ambitious young man who was training to become an electrician. A fundraising campaign launched to support his relatives says he was “full of dreams and life” and was working hard to build a better future for himself and his loved ones.
The appeal seeks donations to help cover funeral expenses and ease the financial burden on the family, saying the support will allow them to focus on mourning rather than the costs associated with the tragedy.
Authorities have not revealed what led to the shooting or whether Sakyi and the suspect knew each other. Investigators also have not disclosed a possible motive.
The case remains under active investigation, and police say more information will be released as it becomes available.
