The University of Southern California (USC) is set to pay tribute to decorated Olympian Allyson Felix by naming one of its fields in her honor.  

This remarkable athlete, whose dedication to the sport of track and field has earned her international acclaim, will see the very stage where her journey began, adorned with her name. 

Allyson Felix’s association with USC began after she had already made her mark in the world of professional sports.  

While diligently working towards a degree in education, she also competed in the World Championships, making her U.S. team debut in 2003.  

Over the span of her illustrious career, Felix collected a remarkable 20 medals at the World Championships, comprising seven individual victories and 13 team relay triumphs, a feat that solidified her status as the most decorated athlete in the competition’s history. Additionally, she boasts an impressive 11 Olympic medals. 

Felix’s influence extends far beyond the confines of the track. She is a vocal advocate for both racial and gender equity, and she has leveraged her platform to raise awareness about the critical issue of Black maternal health. 

 For Allyson Felix, this forthcoming recognition from USC represents a significant milestone. “For me to be born and raised in Los Angeles and have such a history at USC, I am just completely humbled,” she shared in a statement. “It’s such a huge honor to be a part of history in the campus, and it’s such a special place for me.”   

USC President Carol L. Folt acknowledges that the field renaming is a celebration of Felix’s unwavering perseverance and tenacity. She hopes it will serve as an inspiration for current and future student-athletes. “The Allyson Felix Field will recognize her immense achievements as a sports legend and Trojan—while also showing our admiration for her role as an entrepreneur, advocate, and champion for women,” she shared.   

Folt continued, “Allyson is the most decorated Track and Field Olympian in U.S. history and an inspiration to generations of Trojans. My hope is that students playing on the Allyson Felix Field—or just walking by—will see her name prominently displayed and be curious to learn more about her talent, grit, and generosity.”

The official renaming ceremony is scheduled to take place in the upcoming spring. This tribute comes in the wake of Allyson Felix’s retirement announcement, cementing her legacy as one of the all-time greats in the world of athletics.
