Slang, the independent frontline record label under the Influence Media umbrella, has named Tiara Hargrave general manager. She is based in New York and will report to Influence partner and founding advisor Rene Mclean, who heads up the label.
Slang, launched last July, has a distribution deal with Will Smith, and its roster includes Grammy-winning producers Camper (Jay-Z, Drake, Mary J Blige, Nicki Minaj, H.E.R.) and 30 Roc (Roddy Rich, Yo Gotti, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Cardi B), artist-producer Isaia Huron, and rapper/singer Leaf, rappers the Underachievers, RY XP, and Truththebull, and others. The label scored a No. 1 gospel single with Smith’s “You Can Make It.”
Hargrave was previously executive VP and GM of Alamo Records, and also held key roles at Columbia Records, Universal Music Group, Red Bull, and others. Over the years she has worked closely with such artists as Lil Nas X, Lil Durk, and Kid Cudi.
Backed by BlackRock and Warner Music Group, Influence Media’s latest fund has secured over 30 investments across music rights, including multiplatinum artists Future, Enrique Iglesias, Blake Shelton, Jessie Reyez, Julia Michaels, songwriter-producer Tyler Johnson, songwriter-producer Tainy and others.
“Tiara Hargrave has a proven track record of propelling independent artists to success, and she isn’t afraid to wear whatever hat is needed to get the job done” McLean said. ”Her entrepreneurial approach in leading projects is in step with our values at Slang.”
Hargrave added, “I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Slang team, where I look forward to collaborating with a new level of talent and bringing fresh, innovative perspectives to the table. I am excited to contribute to the team’s dynamic vision and continue to push the boundaries.”
