DAF Embassy, Direct Relief Partner To Deliver $2.5 Million Emergency Medical Support To DR Congo Amid Ebola Outbreak
The DAF Embassy for the African Diaspora has announced a major humanitarian collaboration with global medical aid organization Direct Relief to support emergency health response efforts following the Ebola virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The partnership is expected to strengthen frontline medical operations and provide critical healthcare support to affected communities as authorities intensify efforts to contain the deadly outbreak.
As part of the initiative, Direct Relief has committed emergency medical assistance valued at approximately USD $2.5 million to support healthcare workers, treatment centers, and national emergency response teams operating in high-risk regions across the Congo.
The support package includes a wide range of urgently needed medical and logistical supplies aimed at improving response capacity and protecting both patients and frontline personnel.
Among the items being provided are personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers, diagnostic and essential medical supplies, emergency response materials, supportive care medicines, and chronic disease medications to ensure continuity of care during the outbreak.
The package also includes field infrastructure and safety equipment designed to strengthen emergency medical operations in affected areas.
In an official communication to the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Direct Relief acknowledged the facilitation role played by the DAF Embassy for the African Diaspora in advancing the partnership and supporting coordination efforts.
Ambassador Dr. Erieka Bennett, Founder and Head of Mission of the DAF Embassy, described the collaboration as a critical step toward mobilizing global support for the Congo during a time of urgent humanitarian need.
She called on governments, health institutions, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to join the initiative through strategic partnerships capable of strengthening Africa’s emergency health response systems.
“DAF Embassy is proud to help facilitate constructive dialogue and partnership efforts that have made this project possible,” the statement noted. “This is a time for the global community to come together in solidarity with the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”
The Embassy further emphasized the importance of international cooperation in responding to public health emergencies, particularly in vulnerable regions where healthcare systems face significant challenges.
The Ebola virus disease remains one of the world’s most dangerous infectious diseases, requiring rapid response measures, medical preparedness, and coordinated international support to prevent widespread transmission and loss of lives.
