Houston has been selected as the inaugural location outside of Africa to host a Diaspora African Forum (DAF) center, solidifying its reputation as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States.
Mayor Sylvester Turner, who led a successful trade and investment mission to West Africa in July, celebrated this milestone alongside Ambassador H.E. Dr. Erieka Bennett, the visionary founder and Head of Mission for DAF.
Mayor Turner, reflecting on the significance of this achievement, remarked, “We are deeply honored to be chosen as the first city beyond the African continent to establish a Diaspora African Forum location. This momentous occasion reaffirms Houston’s unwavering commitment to strengthening our connections with Africa and its diaspora.”
Ambassador Bennett, leading a DAF leadership delegation to Houston, articulated the collaborative spirit behind this decision. “In African tradition, when someone opens their house to you, you reciprocate by opening your own house. Today, we are here to express our gratitude to Mayor Turner and to inaugurate our Houston office,” Ambassador Bennett stated. “Our choice of Houston as our first location outside of Africa is a natural progression of the relationships nurtured during our mission.”

The Diaspora African Forum’s mission is rooted in bridging the gap between Africa and its diaspora. The organization aims to foster trans-Atlantic connections, promote economic collaboration, and encourage cultural exchange.
Houston’s selection as a host city aligns seamlessly with its ongoing efforts to embrace diversity, foster international relations, and create an environment conducive to meaningful economic partnerships.
With Houston’s rich cultural tapestry and commitment to global engagement, the city is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the Diaspora African Forum’s goals, fostering unity across continents, and bolstering mutually beneficial collaborations.
