Syrian national arrested in Beirut with 40kg of suspected cocaine from Ghana
A Syrian citizen has been apprehended at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after arriving from the capital city of Ghana, Accra, with about 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine hidden inside two suitcases.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) of Ghana disclosed the development in an official statement, indicating that the arrest took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, through a joint operation involving security agencies from Ghana and Lebanon.
The exercise was carried out under a controlled delivery arrangement designed to track the consignment and identify individuals connected to its transportation and distribution.
NACOC revealed that investigations were underway to locate and detain other persons believed to have participated in the shipment, particularly those operating within Ghana.
The Commission noted that the mission extended beyond the airport interception, with intelligence gathered to expose and dismantle the criminal organisation suspected of coordinating the international drug trade.
It further highlighted the importance of intelligence exchange and international partnerships in addressing cross-border narcotics activities.
According to NACOC, the successful operation reflected the determination of both countries to strengthen joint security measures against organised drug trafficking.
Authorities have since intensified investigations, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects allegedly connected to the consignment.
