Seven people died Thursday when a sightseeing aircraft went down near Mount Ololokwe in northern Kenya, according to aviation authorities.
The victims included six visitors and the pilot.
Officials said the identities and citizenships of those aboard had not yet been established.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) reported that the Eurocopter EC130 B4 came down in Samburu County at about 9:13 a.m. local time.
The flight had departed from the Loisaba wildlife conservancy and was heading toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which passes through several protected areas.
Rescue teams have been unable to reach the wreckage because of the difficult terrain.
The Kenya Red Cross said unmanned aerial vehicles were being used to survey the location.
Images circulated online showed smoke rising from the mountainside.
The Transport Ministry and the Air Accident Investigations Department will examine the cause of the incident, while the aviation regulator coordinates the emergency response.
Samburu is a major holiday destination known for its private game reserves, wildlife and dramatic landscapes.
Kenya has experienced several fatal rotary-wing accidents in recent years.
Six people, including a lawmaker, perished in a February crash in Nandi County.
In 2024, military commander Gen. Francis Omondi Ogolla and nine others died when an army aircraft fell in western Kenya, two occupants survived.
Another military aircraft accident near Nairobi in June 2021 claimed the lives of at least 10 soldiers.
