Caleb Yirenkyi Shines As Ghana Beats Panama In World Cup Opener

In a thrilling finish, Black Stars player Caleb Yirenkyi emerged as Ghana’s savior with a dramatic last-minute goal, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in their first Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‎The encounter appeared set to conclude in a stalemate until Yirenkyi struck in the 94th minute, granting Ghana a vital three points and an ideal start to their World Cup journey.

‎Panama began the match with intensity, nearly taking an early lead within the first minute.

‎However, Ghana’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, made a spectacular save to keep the score level.

‎The Central American team maintained control of the ball and dictated the pace of play, while Ghana opted for a more defensive approach, looking to counterattack.

‎After the break, the Black Stars displayed increased attacking vigor, with Jonas Adjetey testing the Panama goalkeeper with a powerful header.

‎Jordan Ayew later squandered a prime chance to score, while Antoine Semenyo also had a promising shot blocked.

‎As the match neared its conclusion, both teams pushed for a decisive goal.

‎Ghana finally broke through deep into stoppage time when Brandon Thomas-Asante charged forward and set up Yirenkyi, who coolly slotted the ball into the net, igniting celebrations among Ghanaian supporters.
