In response to growing concerns about delays in scholarship payments, the government of Ghana has released first quarter funds aimed at settling outstanding obligations for students studying overseas.
In a press release yesterday, the Director-General of the Ghana Scholarships Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, announced that the allocated funds will be directed towards clearing arrears owed to beneficiaries in the United Kingdom and other countries.
“The Ghana Scholarships Authority is pleased to inform all Ghanaian scholarship recipients studying abroad that the government has allocated first quarter funds to assist in resolving outstanding scholarship debts,” the statement revealed.
The Authority recognized the difficulties faced by students due to payment delays and expressed regret for the inconveniences caused.
“This measure is part of the ongoing efforts by the government to systematically address issues related to the timely payment of stipends and tuition fees. We understand the frustrations of our sponsored students and sincerely apologize for the disruptions caused by these delays,” it emphasized.
Furthermore, the Authority reassured that the government remains dedicated to supporting students and resolving ongoing payment challenges. “The government is fully committed to ensuring the welfare of Ghanaian students studying abroad,” the statement affirmed.
To mitigate future delays, the Authority indicated that measures are being implemented to expedite the disbursement process.
“We are actively collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that these payments are processed swiftly and that future delays are minimized,” it stated.

Students have been encouraged to remain patient as efforts are made to rectify the situation.
