UNIFIL Commander Meets Ghanaian Troops Hurt In Lebanon Attack

Major General Diodato Abagnara, the Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), recently visited the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT) headquarters to show solidarity following a missile attack on the camp.

‎According to a Facebook post from the Ghana Armed Forces yesterday, the purpose of the visit was to evaluate the damage inflicted by the rocket strike. During his visit, Major General Abagnara praised the Ghanaian troops for their hard work, discipline, and resilience in the face of extreme conditions.

‎He also reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all peacekeepers operating in the region.

The Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 92, Lieutenant Colonel Evans Yaw Mensah Komedjah, showed gratitude for the visit, highlighting that it notably uplifted the morale of the troops after the incident.

‎The attack, which took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, resulted in injuries to four Ghanaian peacekeepers and caused damage to several lodging facilities within the camp. Nevertheless, GHANBATT personnel quickly organized an emergency response.

This incident occurs during revived cross-border hostilities in southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah has been engaged in exchanges of fire with the Israel Defence Forces due to escalating regional tensions.

‎However, Lance Corporal Albert Abrefa Busia, one of the critically injured soldiers, who  successfully underwent   surgery is currently responding well to treatment.
