Mahamat Idriss Deby, the president of Chad, gave his army orders to retaliate against any invasion from Sudan, according to a statement released on Wednesday by his office.
This comes after a drone strike from Sudan killed 17 people in Chad, including mourners attending a funeral event in a border town called Tine.
According to two local government sources, there were 16 fatalities and 10 injuries, adding that all of the fatalities and injuries were civilians.
The president of the country on Thursday promised to take revenge for any more attacks, claiming that Chad has bolstered its border security presence and might conduct operations on Sudanese territory.
Officials say the army ordered the evacuation of 2,500 residents of border communities during a security conference with Chad’s defence minister on Thursday.
According to local government officials, the perpetrator of the incident was not immediately identified, however, the RSF and the Sudanese army have both released statements accusing one another of carrying out the assault.
The army of Sudan has since expressed “sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the families of the victims” as well as to the people and government of Chad.
