Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced on his Facebook page today, that the United States Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has pledged its full assistance for Ghana’s drafted United Nations resolution aimed at declaring the transatlantic slave trade as the most egregious crime against humanity.
According to the Minister, the endorsement was secured during an executive discussion in Washington, where he engaged with the leadership of the influential caucus to gather backing for the initiative spearheaded by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.
Ablakwa stated, “I am in Washington to hold strategic engagements with the leadership of the influential and inspirational Congressional Black Caucus regarding President Mahama’s impending historic UN Resolution.”

He characterized this backing as an important milestone for Ghana’s global advocacy efforts, stating that the CBC has offered “100 percent support” for the draft resolution.
“Absolutely delighted to disclose that the Congressional Black Caucus has declared 100% support for Ghana’s UN Draft Resolution,” he expressed, adding that “this endorsement from the Conscience of Congress is most cherished and deeply appreciated.”
The Minister explained that the development brings revived momentum into Ghana’s campaign for reparatory equality and international acknowledgement of historical injustices.

“We clearly have added momentum to our global campaign for reparatory justice,” he remarked, highlighting the importance of global solidarity in advancing this cause.
Additionally, Ablakwa revealed that discussions also centered on establishing a more organized and long-term collaboration involving Ghana, the African Union, and the Congressional Black Caucus.
