The Director General for Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, has stated that the four Ghanaian army officers injured in a missile attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping base in southern Lebanon are currently receiving treatment and are expected to continue their medical care there.
Speaking about the condition of the injured officers, Captain Veronica said that the current assessment indicates that continuing treatment in Lebanon is the most feasible option.
”They’ll likely be treated in Lebanon unless things get worse, then they’ll come home. But they’re responding to treatment, so hopefully they’ll be okay,” she added.
She made these remarks after the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters at Al Qouzah outpost was hit by two missile strikes between 5:45 pm and 5:52 pm on Friday, March 6, during a clash between the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah. This incident led to injuries among Ghanaian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
She ended by saying that the Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the strike as he characterized the incident as a breach of international humanitarian law that safeguards peacekeeping personnel.
