15-Year-Old Girl Sadly Dies After Drunk Driver Runs Red Light On Fourth July

Chasity Nelson, a 15-year-old African American girl from Greenville County, South Carolina, died four days after a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and crashed head-on into her family’s car on the Fourth of July.

According to Fox Carolina, Chasity was one of five people riding in a Toyota Camry on the evening of July 4. Around 8:30 p.m., they were driving through the intersection of Old Easley Bridge Road and White Horse Road when a Jeep Cherokee crashed into them.

Highway troopers said the Jeep’s driver ignored a traffic light before hitting the Camry. The collision injured all five passengers, including Chasity.

She was rushed to Greenville Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, but sadly died four days later on July 8. The coroner ruled her death an accident caused by blunt force trauma.

The four other passengers also suffered injuries, but officials have not released information about their conditions.

The driver of the Jeep, whose name has not yet been made public, was hurt in the crash and is still in the hospital. Once discharged, he will face one count of felony DUI resulting in death and four counts of felony DUI with great bodily injury.
