The central midfielder turned 18 on Monday, and the new deal rewards the impression and impact he has made since his arrival from Leicester City in September 2023.
He signed his first professional contract in October 2024, having been training regularly with the senior squad.
Upon signing the new deal, the teenager said: “It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well, so it’s a great feeling. Now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.
“It’s just step-by-step, day-by-day, just becoming better every day, improving as a player. I’m still young. You know, there’s a lot of improvement. That’s the most important thing.”
After impressive performances in several different age groups in Liverpool’s youth academy, Nyoni made his debut in the same campaign as a late substitute in the FA Cup fourth round victory over Southampton in February 2024, becoming the fourth youngest debutant in the club’s history.
He has also impressed head coach Arne Slot, as he was involved in pre-season and made five senior appearances last season — including in the Champions League against PSV, becoming the club’s youngest-ever player in a European competition (17 years and 213 days).
Nyoni has also represent England at every youth level from Under-16 to under-20.
‘New contract is great news for Nyoni and for Liverpool’
A new contract for Nyoni is great news for him and Liverpool and underlines the faith the club have in his potential.
The 18-year-old has been turning heads since he arrived at the academy and has been fast-tracked through the age groups because of his talent.
The gifted midfielder has technical quality in abundance. He is calm in possession and is versatile, capable of playing in multiple midfield roles.
The hope is he is the next gem to emerge from the academy that has seen a number of players come through and play first team minutes.
It remains to be seen what Liverpool decide is best for his development this season, but the ambitious midfielder will no doubt be hoping to make another strong impression in pre-season and form part of Slot’s first team plans.
