Nigerian economist Akinwumi Adesina will finish his time as president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in September this year.
In an interview with the BBC, Dr. Adesina talked about what he has achieved at the bank and the challenges Africa still faces.
He spoke about how cuts in foreign aid from the US and other countries are affecting Africa. He said Africans should not depend too much on help from others.
Dr. Adesina also shared how growing up in poverty influenced the way he sees the world.
