Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says he held talks with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom, His Excellency Edward Miliband on bilateral relations, trade and investment, and cooperation on international issues.
In a statement after the meeting, Minister Ablakwa said the two sides welcomed the growth in Ghana–UK trade and investment.
He also reported progress in negotiations to exempt Ghanaian students and professionals from taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
According to Ablakwa, Ghana has demonstrated that it meets the minimum statistical threshold for English proficiency, and both sides are optimistic about the request.
The minister said he and Miliband also discussed Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for reparatory justice and prospects for broader dialogue following a Ghana-led United Nations resolution on the transatlantic enslavement of Africans.

Their talks covered shared priorities ahead of Ghana’s planned chairmanship of the African Union in 2027 and the UK’s expected G20 presidency that year.
Both parties also reviewed preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda next month.
Minister Ablakwa thanked Miliband for his hospitality and described Ghana–UK relations as longstanding.
