Trina Braxton’s Husband Von Scales Dead At 58, Family Confirms

Von Scales, the husband of singer and reality television star Trina Braxton, has sadly passed away at 58. His family announced his death in a statement and did not reveal a cause. They also asked for privacy as she and their loved ones deal with the loss of the businessman and former college basketball player.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the family said in the statement on Thursday, October 1st, according to People. They thanked people for their thoughts and prayers while asking the public to give the family space during this difficult time. The announcement comes nearly seven years after Braxton and Scales married in St. Louis.

The couple got married in December 2019, and their wedding later appeared on Braxton Family Values, which aired on the cable network WE tv. Braxton, now 51, previously described the ceremony as an important moment because it brought their loved ones together and allowed them to celebrate their relationship as a family. At the time, she said she was happy to have found a partner with whom she could build a future.

Their relationship started through a mutual friend. Scales was doing business with a man who lived in Braxton’s neighborhood when the friend suggested introducing him to someone. Scales, who was coming out of another relationship, agreed to the meeting. During a 2023 appearance with Braxton on the Marriage and Money with Egypt & Mike podcast, he recalled that he did not initially realize he was meeting someone from the Braxton family.

Scales said he became confused when he visited Braxton’s home and saw pictures of Toni Braxton throughout the house. He initially thought she was simply a huge fan of the singer. He soon learned that Toni was actually Trina’s sister. The unexpected discovery became part of the story of how their relationship began and eventually developed into a marriage.

Before marrying Scales, Braxton had been married twice, including to Gabe Solis. Their divorce was finalized in 2015, and Solis died three years later. Braxton later credited Scales with supporting her while she grieved her former husband. She said in a 2019 interview that he stayed by her side even though it was difficult for him to watch her mourn someone she had previously been married to. Braxton also said her relationship with Scales gave her the chance to build something she had not experienced in her earlier marriages.
