Police forces in the Republic of Ghana have detained two men in connection with the kidnapping and killing of Senegalese footballer Cheikh Touré, whose body was taken to a hospital in Kumasi in October 2025.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Nigerien Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe Aziz Wadrago Mane, were captured on September 20 at a property in Banpanase, near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.
Investigators say the pair belonged to a four-person operation that allegedly posed as football talent scouts.
The group is accused of using online contacts to bring people to Ghana and target them for fraud.
Police allege Touré was enticed into the country before being abducted and killed.
On October 16, 2025, men claiming to be the goalkeeper’s brothers brought him to Manhyia Hospital with multiple abdominal injuries, saying he had been in an accident.
Medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.
The men later left his remains at Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo and disappeared.
The case prompted concern in Senegal.
Its Foreign Affairs Ministry said early inquiries suggested Touré could have been caught up in a fraud and extortion network, and Senegalese officials urged Ghana to investigate fully.
Police say Walid and Mane acknowledged taking part during questioning and described their alleged involvement in bringing Touré to Ghana.
Both remain in custody and are expected to be prepared for court.
Authorities are also seeking two other alleged members: Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, known as Prince Pierre, and a man identified only as Barry.
Police say the pair may have had significant roles in the operation and are working to locate them.
