Ghana and Panama have formalised an agreement to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand collaboration in trade, cocoa, maritime activities and the extractive industry.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his Panamanian counterpart, Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez.
The accord establishes a framework for regular political consultations between the two nations and is expected to provide a more organised approach to bilateral engagement.
Mr Ablakwa said the arrangement would promote closer collaboration in maritime affairs, cocoa production, commerce and technical support within the extractive sector.
Ghana’s cocoa industry remains a major contributor to the country’s economy, while Panama occupies a significant position in international shipping due to the Panama Canal, a key route for global maritime transportation.
The understanding also creates opportunities for Ghana and Panama to exchange knowledge and technical expertise in mining and other extractive activities.
The latest development forms part of Ghana’s broader diplomatic efforts to strengthen international partnerships and create new avenues for economic, technical and maritime cooperation.
