Ghana forward Iñaki Williams has ended his international career with the Black Stars after a four-year spell with the national side.

‎The 32-year-old confirmed his decision in a post on X, saying he was proud of his contribution to Ghana at major international competitions.

‎“I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end,” Williams said.

‎Born in Bilbao, Spain, to Ghanaian parents, the Athletic Club striker changed his international allegiance in 2022 after previously playing for Spain at senior level.

‎He made his debut for Ghana on September 23, 2022, during a friendly against Brazil and subsequently featured at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

‎Williams was also part of the squad at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup.

‎He started the Black Stars’ Round of 32 encounter with Colombia, which ended in a 1-0 loss and eliminated Ghana from the competition.

‎One of his notable moments came during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers when he scored a dramatic 95th-minute header to secure victory over Madagascar in Ghana’s opening fixture.

‎Across his international career, Williams made 28 appearances and found the net twice.

‎In his farewell statement, the striker said his time with the Black Stars had strengthened his connection to his Ghanaian heritage and offered experiences beyond football.

‎He expressed gratitude to supporters and said he would remain behind the national team despite no longer being part of the squad.

‎“Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am,” he wrote.

‎His departure comes as Ghana enters a new era under Carlos Queiroz, who returned as head coach after the 2026 World Cup.

‎Queiroz is expected to oversee the team’s upcoming assignments, including preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
