Ashlee Jenae’s death is still unfolding with heartbreak, unanswered questions, and family tension at the center of the story.
The influencer, whose real name was Ashly Robinson, died on April 9 while vacationing in Zanzibar, Tanzania with her fiancé Joe McCann, and authorities have said the case remains under investigation. Her family held a funeral for her on May 5 in Paulsboro, New Jersey.
Now, McCann is speaking publicly for the first time. In a social media message reported by TMZ, he said there were “no adequate words” to describe the devastation he felt after losing his “best friend, confidante and fiancé.” He also said he was heartbroken for Ashlee Jenae’s parents and added that she wanted most to become a mother and raise a family.
But the timing of his statement comes as reports suggest he was shut out of the funeral entirely. TMZ reported that Jenae’s loved ones did not invite McCann and had not spoken to him since her death. Reporting describes McCann as being “blocked from her funeral” as questions around her death continue.
The larger story remains difficult and unresolved. Robinson was found unconscious during the couple’s trip, and Tanzanian authorities questioned McCann as a witness while keeping his passport during the investigation. Her family has said they are still looking for answers, and the case has not gone away quietly.
The influencer’s family laid her to rest in New Jersey while Joe McCann shared a public message mourning her death and saying she wanted to become a mother.
