Ghana Expands Visa Waiver Agreements With Maldives, Zambia, Antigua And Barbuda

The Government of Ghana in a significant move to enhance travel opportunities for its citizens, has secured additional visa waiver agreements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia. The initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at liberalizing visa access by 2025–2026.

‎The announcement was made by Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, via a social media update early this morning.

‎He stated, “Cabinet has approved new Visa Waiver Agreements for Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia.”

‎These agreements will allow Ghanaians, regardless of passport type, ordinary, service, or diplomatic, to visit these nations for up to 30 days without the need for a visa.

‎Parliament is anticipated to ratify these approvals in the near future.

‎Minister Ablakwa emphasized the Ghana government’s commitment to negotiating further Visa Waiver Agreements to enhance the value of the Ghanaian passport while simultaneously improving security measures related to passport issuance.

‎The development is part of Ghana’s ongoing efforts to promote global mobility and strengthen international relations. In recent years, the country has expanded its visa waiver policy significantly, signing agreements with nations such as Morocco, Algeria, Mozambique, Colombia, Dominica, and Angola in 2025.

‎ Looking ahead to 2026, Ghana is shifting towards a continental strategy that aims for free visa travel for all African nationals while continuing discussions with additional countries.
