Ghanaian supporters planning to cheer on the Black Stars during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States should brace themselves for hefty transportation fees, particularly for the highly anticipated Group L match against England.
The Black Stars are set to clash with the England national team on June 23, 2026, in their second group-stage encounter at Gillette Stadium, which will be temporarily rebranded as “Boston Stadium” for the duration of the tournament.
In light of expected large crowds, event organizers yesterday rolled out a coordinated matchday transport system. However, the announced costs have already raised eyebrows among traveling fans.
The Boston World Cup Host Committee has introduced the “Boston Stadium Express,” a dedicated shuttle service priced at $95 (approximately GHS1,000) for a round trip per individual.
Importantly, the fare is non-negotiable, with no discounts offered for children, seniors, or those needing accessibility assistance. The shuttle service, in collaboration with Yankee Line, aims to serve up to 10,000 supporters per match.
Pick-up points will be strategically located throughout the Greater Boston area, including major transport hubs and select hotels. Operations for the shuttles will begin three hours prior to kick-off, with return trips scheduled to leave approximately 30 minutes after the match concludes.
Officials have also cautioned fans to prepare for significant road closures and traffic limitations around the stadium, as authorities anticipate heavy congestion throughout the tournament.
