Uganda Announces Visa Waivers For 2027 Africa Cup Of Nations Visitors

The Ugandan government has unveiled plans to implement visa waivers for international travelers attending the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as part of its initiative to promote tourism and improve accessibility for the prestigious tournament.

‎Uganda will co-host the event with Kenya and Tanzania, scheduled to run from June 19 to July 18, 2027. The announcement was made yesterday by Dennis K. Mugimba during a press briefing at the Uganda Media Centre.

‎“The Cabinet has resolved to grant a visa waiver for visitors arriving in Uganda, effective one month prior to the start of AFCON 2027 and continuing until one month after the tournament concludes. The initiative aims to attract more tourists and enhance the visibility of Destination Uganda,” Mugimba stated.

‎He also emphasized that Uganda is working closely with its co-hosts to ensure smooth cross-border travel for fans and stakeholders during the event. “To facilitate the movement of supporters and guests throughout the tournament, the government is exploring the possibility of a special joint PAMOJA visa with Kenya and Tanzania,” he added.

‎A total of 28 teams are anticipated to compete in the tournament, with host nations Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania qualifying automatically.

‎The 2027 AFCON, is expected to garner international attention as East Africa aims to deliver an unforgettable experience despite existing infrastructural challenges in the host countries.
