‘Verify Before You Travel’ — Foreign Affairs Ministry Warns Public Over Rising Visa Fraud

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana has issued a strong warning to the public, particularly young people, to be vigilant against visa-related Ponzi schemes that promise travel and job opportunities abroad.

‎In a statement released yesterday, the ministry said it had observed a worrying rise in fraudulent activities linked to individuals and networks associated with QNET and similar operations targeting unsuspecting Ghanaians.

‎According to the ministry, many victims are being deceived with promises of employment, business opportunities and assistance in obtaining European visas.

‎“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana wishes to caution the public, particularly Ghanaian youth, against the activities of individuals and networks associated with QNET and similar schemes,” the statement said.

‎It noted that these schemes often lure people into travelling abroad under false pretences, leaving them stranded once they arrive.

‎The ministry explained that several victims have ended up in difficult situations, with some being detained by immigration authorities while others face exploitative and distressing conditions in foreign countries.

‎“These deceptive schemes have resulted in several victims being stranded, detained by foreign immigration authorities, or subjected to distressing and exploitative conditions abroad,” the statement added.

‎The ministry therefore urged the public to exercise caution and verify all travel, recruitment and business opportunities through official channels before making payments or travel arrangements.

‎It also called on parents, guardians and community leaders to help educate young people and the wider public about the dangers associated with such schemes.

‎Members of the public were further encouraged to report suspected visa fraud and related criminal activities to the appropriate authorities.
