Ghana Restores Name Of Main Airport To Accra International Airport

The Government of Ghana has changed the name of the country’s main airport. It will no longer be called Kotoka International Airport. The airport will now return to its old name, Accra International Airport.

The announcement was made on Monday, February 23, in a statement from the Ministry of Transport. The Ministry said the airport was first known as Accra International Airport before its name was changed years ago. Officials explained that it is now right to restore the earlier and widely known name.

According to the statement, the change is only about the name. Airport work, safety measures, and international flights will continue as normal. Travelers should not expect delays or changes to their bookings because of the new name.

The Ministry also pointed out that in the records of the International Civil Aviation Organization, the airport code has always remained “ACC.” This means airlines and global aviation systems have continued to recognize it by that code, despite the different name.

Officials said the transition will happen step by step. Government agencies will update legal documents where needed. Airport signs will be replaced. Online platforms, aviation books, and other official materials will also be corrected to show the new name.

The government has asked the public, airport workers, airlines, and international partners to support the process so that everything moves smoothly.

The Ministry thanked all groups involved and said it appreciates their cooperation during the change.
