Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), arrived in Senegal today for high-level discussions with government and football officials following the recent uproar over the country’s AFCON 2025 title loss.
During his visit, Motsepe is set to engage with Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the President of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, Abdoulaye Fall. The meetings aim to address rising tensions, respond to allegations of bias, and work towards mending relations between CAF and Senegalese football after the contentious ruling.
On March 17, CAF awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco after its appeal jury reviewed the AFCON 2025 final. The decision reversed an earlier outcome where Senegal had secured a 1-0 win over Morocco on the pitch.
The appeal, submitted by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, was accepted based on procedural grounds. CAF indicated that Morocco’s right to a fair hearing had not been upheld during the initial disciplinary proceedings.
In response to the ruling, Senegal has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, contesting the decision and seeking to reclaim its AFCON 2025 title.
Motsepe’s visit underscores CAF’s efforts to restore trust among its member associations and highlights the governing body’s dedication to resolving conflicts while upholding the integrity of African football.
