Eason Taylor, a talented 12-year-old from Durkin Park Elementary, is making waves in the world of youth bowling. Competing in tournaments across the country, he has already earned scholarship money and recently placed second in the prestigious Junior Gold Championships in Detroit, the largest national youth bowling tournament.

“I play bowling, baseball, flag football, basketball. Yeah, that’s it,” Eason said, though bowling remains his true passion.

His love for the game started early. “My dad bought me these little toy pins, and every day, all the time, all I would do is roll the ball,” he recalled. This fascination followed him everywhere. “He would put them in a shopping bag and take them with him,” said his father, Curtis Taylor. “If they didn’t have pins, he would set up water bottles, anything cylindrical, and just start rolling.”

Eason began bowling in a league at just four years old and hasn’t stopped since. His dedication has led to remarkable achievements, including nearly bowling a perfect game. “I was one strike away,” he said, reflecting on his close call with 11 consecutive strikes.

His father remains in awe of his progress. “When I watched him on TV, I’m still just amazed, like anyone else. He continues to improve, set realistic goals, and achieves them,” Curtis said.

Eason’s goals include joining the Professional Bowlers Association and achieving a “perfect game and 800 series across three games.” He’s already close, thanks to countless hours of practice, which he considers key to his success. “Bowling over and over and over again. Practice,” Eason emphasized.

Though his skills are top-notch, Eason enjoys playing with friends and family and adds a handicap to keep things fun. “I usually give them 100 pins handicap,” he explained.

Always willing to help others, Eason shares his knowledge with those looking to improve. “You just have to throw [a football spiral] upside down with a flick of your wrist,” he advised.

Last season alone, Eason competed in nearly 40 tournaments, securing first place 14 times, and his love for the game shows no signs of slowing down.
