The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has officially dismissed rumors circulating on social media that a vessel allegedly detained and boarded by the Senegalese Navy will be discussed in Parliament.
The Authority responded to a Facebook post attributed to Member of Parliament for Akwapim North, Sammi Awuku, which referenced the incident. In a statement released today, the Ghana Maritime Authority emphasized that all operations, including vessel registration, adhere strictly to national legislation and international maritime regulations.
The Ghana Maritime Authority reassured the public that its activities are conducted with the best interests of Ghana in mind, prioritizing the safety and security of the nation’s maritime environment.
Furthermore, the Authority acknowledged Parliament’s oversight function and expressed its readiness to cooperate fully by providing any required information if formally summoned to appear before the legislative body.

“Should we receive an invitation from Parliament, we are prepared to share all pertinent details and engage transparently with members,” the statement read.
The Ghana Maritime Authority reiterated its dedication to upholding high standards of integrity while effectively regulating Ghana’s maritime industry.
