Families Of Ghanaian Tomato Traders Fear The Worst After Burkina Faso Attack

Families in Ghana are anxiously waiting for news after a truck carrying tomato traders was caught in a violent attack in Burkina Faso.

The Government of Ghana confirmed that the incident happened in Titao, Burkina Faso, on Saturday, 14 February 2026. The traders were traveling with their goods when the vehicle was hit during what officials described as a terrorist incident.

Many of the traders are believed to be small-scale business people who cross the border regularly to buy and sell tomatoes.

In a brief statement, the government said it has received “disturbing information” about the attack. Officials have not yet released the number of Ghanaians affected.

The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is currently working with local authorities to gather more facts. According to the statement, “The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is liaising with the officials of Burkina Faso to visit the attack site for details and identification of Ghanaians caught in the attack.”

At this stage, it is still unclear who survived and who may have been injured or killed. Authorities say more information will be shared once identities are confirmed.

Cross-border trade between Ghana and Burkina Faso is common, especially in food items like tomatoes, onions, and grains. Traders often travel long distances by road, passing through areas that have recently seen growing insecurity.
