Kaimir Jones, a 2-year-old African American boy from Valdosta, Georgia, was mauled to death by two Rottweilers after being left unattended at his babysitter’s home. The babysitter has been arrested and charged in connection with his death.
According to Cleveland 19, police said officers and paramedics responded to a home on Pecan Drive on Saturday after receiving reports of a dog attack. When first responders arrived, they found Kaimir dead at the scene.
Investigators said the child had been left in the care of 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb, who was allegedly running an unlicensed daycare at her home. Kaimir’s mother dropped him off that morning, trusting Cobb to look after him.
Authorities believe Cobb left the toddler unattended for more than two hours while she took a nap. During that time, Kaimir reportedly went into the backyard and opened a kennel containing two large Rottweilers. The dogs then fatally attacked him.
Cobb was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children. Police said she usually looked after up to 10 children at her home, though Kaimir was the only one there that day.
Animal Control officers removed the two Rottweilers and a third dog from the property. Detectives are continuing to process evidence, and police said additional charges may be filed.
A GoFundMe page organized by Kaimir’s mother has raised more than $15,000 to help pay for his funeral and memorial costs.
