As part of efforts to curb racism in Spain’s top football league, La Liga, the organization has launched a ball to be used in this weekend’s fixtures. The anti-racism football is created by graffiti artist, SUSO33 and designed by Puma.
The ball, which is meant to raise awareness, will be used in all top-flight games. On it, is the inscription, “Our united strength against racism, only together can we win,” portraying a strong symbol of unity.
Known as the “Puma Vs Racism” ball, it forms part of La Liga’s annual VS Racism campaign ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to be held on March 21.
The goal is to raise awareness of racism and discrimination in football and society, while encouraging stakeholders to unite against hatred and promote diversity and inclusion.
Additionally, the campaign includes collaborations with international companies like PUMA and EA Sports, which have sponsored earlier iterations through match balls, online advertising, and awareness campaigns at stadiums and media outlets.
Throughout the campaign, La Liga clubs and players are taking part in awareness-raising events in addition to the unique match ball. These include themed captain’s armbands, anti-racism placards at stadiums, and social media campaigns urging supporters to join the battle against prejudice.
In addition to increasing awareness, the objective is to motivate clubs, players, and supporters to work together to create a more inclusive and respectful football environment.
