LeBron James, revered as one of the most accomplished NBA champions, extends his influence beyond the basketball court through his family foundation, fostering community engagement and educational opportunities.

The foundation orchestrates various initiatives, including hosting community events, operating a school, and providing financial assistance to underprivileged students aspiring to attend college.

Supported by a dedicated cadre of volunteers, including his mother, wife Savannah, business partner Maverick, and numerous local experts, James underscores the importance of continuous improvement and efficacy within his foundation.

Reflecting on the foundation’s evolution, James remarks, “Just as I work to improve my game, I also work to improve my Foundation and its effectiveness, year after year.”

He emphasizes the transformation of the initial Bikeathon event into the comprehensive I PROMISE Program in 2011, aiming to address deeper societal challenges and educational disparities. “I don’t want any of my kids to become a statistic and drop out of school like I so easily could have,” James shares.

From its modest beginnings with a few hundred third graders, the program now serves nearly 1,200 Akron Public School students, expanding annually. The initiative includes the I PROMISE Secondary for middle school students, ensuring comprehensive support throughout their academic journey.

Notably, high-achieving students in the program receive full, four-year scholarships to The University of Akron upon high school graduation.

With the program’s deadline for application varying and the award amount potentially reaching up to $30,000, the foundation continues to champion educational equity and community empowerment.
